I-70

We made the trek back to Castle Valley along I-70 yesterday and it was still amazing. If I had any real skills I would have come back with a hundred framable wonders, but I'm happy with what I got.

better than the new moon

I didn't even get a good shot near the alpine loop last night, but it was still better than going to see that vampire movie.

Also it's been a long time since I've done anything with an f/22 aperture and I found a whole lot of nasties on my sensor.

goblin valley

We left at 2:00pm on Saturday for Goblin Valley and got there just after the sun had disappeared. Oops. We should have stopped along the way anyway because I70 between salina and green river is far better for the photographing than goblin valley itself. At least I took a few pictures because I'd be embarrassed if I'd driven for 10 hours and come home empty handed.

heber creeper

We ventured up Provo Canyon in hopes of finding some great river scene with colored trees against an early morning sky. It was grossly overcast and most of the leaves around the best parts of the river had been torn from their branches by last week's storm. So, naturally, we took pictures of some railroad tracks.

I don't usually use this lens since it's about as sharp as my bum. I can get over it for this photo, though.

i made it back with no lion scratches

i learned a few things as i ventured to silver lake tonight.

1. it's a really good thing i replaced the shocks in my car before attempting the road
2. i'll probably need to replace them again now that i've driven it
3. i'm apparently scared of the dark; this i learned as i hiked down from the lake alone after the sun set. boogedy boo.
4. i have a thing for waterfalls

Tulip Festival

Okay, so it doesn't sound very manly, but I've been trying to make it to the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival for several years now and have never been able to go. This year I put my foot down. It was the windiest day ever with tulips swaying all over the place making longer exposures and larger depth of field options impossible. I put on my 60mm macro and cranked open the aperture and did my best to spot meter and focus each bloom on the move. Oh yeah, and we took the whole family. This is the best I could do.

Fire

I have a friend who's in school to become a firefighter. His class needed a group shot and they didn't want it to be boring. I'd say we did pretty well. There were only a few minor burns before they put their helmets on.

Bridal Veil Falls...finally

For a famous place in Utah County, I've never really been able to frame anything at Bridal Veil Falls until I got really mad at the place today and swore in my wrath to take a decent photo of it. The recent storms this week dusted the canyon with wet snow that stuck to everything. It will be all gone by tomorrow.

Little Sahara

My brother was in town this weekend and we managed to find a few hours with Dad to make it to the Little Sahara sand dunes near Nephi. The weather couldn't have been better. The sand was heavy from recently melted snow, so it didn't get blown into our equipment. The sky was blue with a few clouds and the sun drew sharp shadows on all the dunes. It was incredibly strange to see almost no one else at the park since it's usually hopping with ATVs, go-karts and the like.

the scenic route

Sometimes i take the scenic route to work. Lately there has been an awful lot of fog and frost which has made for some impressive trees along the way. On my way home for lunch I happened to catch a glimpse of Mt. Timpanogos through the trees and decided it was worth a stop. In the end I'm not sure if it was worth the stop since at 28mm I couldn't get both the peak and the trees in focus. I should have backed across the street and used a telephoto maybe.

28mm
f/22

Then again, I don't suppose I could have gone much higher on the focal length and still captured the entire mountain.
